I’m obsessed with snowmen and this little ping pong ball snowman Christmas ornament idea is super cute. I’m always on the hunt for fun, inexpensive ideas, and ornaments are a favorite over the holidays. This particular ornament uses one of my favorite craft accessories that was never meant to be a craft item. Ping pong balls are an amazing crafting choice, and it just proves it!
Ping pong ball snowman Christmas decorations
One of the best parts of this craft is that it is so easy to do for anyone, including kids. Plus, you only need a few items, and upcycling is a big part of that adornment. You can personalize your snowman to resemble yourself, a fun cartoon character, or a simple look that goes with your decor. Make a full collection and cover your whole tree with them this Christmas!
I love snowmen so much that I have compiled this huge list of snowman crafts that are perfect for winter. There are tons of ornaments here, but also other fun handicrafts that are sure to inspire you. You are also welcome to make fun little clay colored ornaments or even these classic Rudolph ornaments with a cinnamon stick. Christmas is tons of fun and this year you can create a unique ornament for every day.
What else can be used instead of ping bong balls?
Any small balls can be used for these snowmen. If you don’t have ping pong balls, you can use golf balls too. These are heavier but still work for the tree. Often times, you can find cheap ping pong balls in a dollar store or in the toy section of large stores like Walmart.
Styrofoam balls and wooden beads are other options that would work well in this ornament as well. There are tons of ways to make them with anything that is round, including a simple colored glass bulb or a traditional round ornament.
Fun ways to customize your snowman ornament
Customizing these ornaments is a great idea if you work with children or do so in a classroom with young children. They love to make it yourself and of course your Christmas tree will be fun if you don’t have two alike. Below are a few ideas that you will be happy to add to your snowman.
- Add earmuffs with pompoms and pipe cleaners.
- Use googly eyes to give them eyes.
- Paint on their faces to make them lighter.
- Add different colored eyes.
- Glue a scarf on the floor to hang from the snowman.
- Wrap yarn or felt around the bottle cap to create hair.
What can I use for the snowman hat?
As you can see, I reached for bottle caps and rounded items that I could easily glue on. These are perfect as you may already have them on hand. Of course, there are other things you can do too, and below are some ideas that I like that add to the snowman’s cute look too.
- Foam paper or felt cut into a hat shape.
- Miniature doll hats or doll hats for clothes or miniatures.
- Cut the construction paper into a strip and glue it onto the table tennis ball as a hit.
- A pom pom on top can be a fuzzy hat look that is fun.
How do I hang these snowmen?
The easiest way to hang these snowmen is to glue some string to the back of the ball. So you can hang up the snowmen without a fuss. You can also create a hole in the ball to hang the Pin Pong Ball Snowmen.
If you drill / burn a hole in the top of the bottle cap, you can pull string or fishing line through the bottle cap and glue it to the bottom before attaching it to the top of the ball. This makes it easier to hang up so that it is straight and not tilted when hanging on its back.

If you’re not drinking soft drinks or bottled water and don’t have lids on hand, that’s fine. I gave you ideas for making the hats on your snowman above, but you can purchase large plastic bottle caps from Etsy too. Some people collect these and are willing to sell them to you for the shipping cost and a small fee.
Glue these on a piece of string and create a cute garland for your coat!
