Paper flowers are always a welcome addition to any room. This tutorial on creating a beautiful bouquet of Calla Lilies from old book pages is very easy to follow. They are absolutely great and add beauty to any table or room. This could also be a great gift idea or an addition to a traditional bouquet. Make your own paper flowers and add a touch of rustic beauty to your home that will make everyone jealous.
Old book page Calla Lily
When I was growing up, my grandma had a few flowers in front of her house. There were few, but I vividly remember the orange of the tiger lilies. These flowers created my love for the lily. While there are many different varieties and stunning colors, my favorite flower must be the calla lily. It is just a beautiful soft flower that always makes me think of joy and love. This is probably because they are often used for wedding bouquets.
Using some pages from an old book gives these paper lilies the vintage look I wanted. The slight yellowing of the book page really adds a rustic look that makes it feel aged. I love what it looks like when I’m sitting in a bouquet on a shelf or table in my house.
Can I make these different colors?
Sure you can! I like to use pages from old books because I have a habit of collecting them for craft projects. That means they are already at hand in my craft cupboard. You can do the same with virtually any paper you want to use.
Craft paper and scrapbooking paper are my favorites when I don’t use old book pages. You could use construction paper if you are doing this with your children. Another option would be to upgrade old newspapers. They could also be a great way to upgrade something that could otherwise be thrown in the trash.
How can I display paper flowers?
I showed some ways of using these flowers as decor. It’s great to add them to a single bud vase with some decorative stones. In a glass bell you add a nice addition to every table. With other greens or babies, inhaling a vase is always a favorite. I even showed how to use them as decor on the table. But that’s not all! You can use them for many decorations and additions throughout your home.
- Glue them next to green on a wreath.
- Add them to a gift or gift bag with a bow.
- Use in bouquets for weddings or events.
- Add green and other paper flowers for a table centerpiece.
- Spray with a sealant and put it in a barrette to put it behind your ear.
What is the best stem for paper flowers?
I have basic flower stems in my craft supplies. I don’t work with lots of fresh flowers regularly, but I love having them on hand to make stems from paper flowers. They’re easy to use, but they’re not the only way to create a stem for your paper flower.
You can also use craft tape or flower ribbon to add a dowel, a stick from your garden, a skewer, or even a piece of trim or baseboard that you cut. Flower stems do not have to be anything specific. You can even take a pack of pens and add them at the top to create a fun bouquet of pencils that you can give as a gift to a teacher.

How to make a Calla Lily from an old book page
Draw a pear shape on an old book page.
Cut out this shape and start creating the flower shape.
Start by taking the widest end of the paper and squeezing the middle to create a small dot at that end. They don’t fold all of the paper, just the bottom edge. You will glue this later.
Now fold only a small part of the outer curve of the widest parts outwards.
Bend the narrow end of the flower slightly down and create a curve that will later stick to the stem.
Now cut a triangle from the book page.
Start at the widest part of the triangle and roll firmly up into a tube shape.
Glue the rolled paper together at the edge.
Make sure the rolled paper is the same length or slightly shorter than the petal.
Next, apply a piece of tape to the end of the rolled paper and insert the flower stem into the end to hold it in place.
Take the petal and wrap the bottom part that you previously pinched around the bottom of the rolled paper on the stem and glue it in place.
Now you can repeat this for any number of flowers and display it alone or with a bouquet.
Paper flowers are one of my favorite pieces ever. This is just one of many you can find here. Go tall with this old book page floral wall art, or you can add it as an accent like a wreath of flowers wrapped with this old book page. Of course, you can also add these beautiful paper flowers to any gift or package. Tissue paper flowers are another easy-to-make favorite, or you can really spice things up with these DIY pom-pom flowers. A fabric bouquet is another great option. There are lots of ideas!
If you are not sure whether you want to create a freehand drawing for your flower, you can always download templates that you want to use. I love grabbing flower-shaped SVG and PDF files that are intended for use with a Cricut machine. You can use them to cut out or use the template with your printer and then cut out of any paper you want.
