I am absolutely in love with the simplicity of this paper vase decor from old book pages. Who would have thought that you could turn an old, torn book into such a breathtaking centerpiece or an addition to your home decor? I am shocked that this simple project has become so breathtaking. All you need is a sharp craft knife, some glue, and suddenly you have a wonderful addition to your home.
Paper vase decor from old books
In my quest to make as many things out of old books as possible, this is my most recent project. There is only one thing that makes my heart happy, a beautiful book that would have been thrown away, into an even nicer decor. The smell of the paper and the beautiful print on the sides make it simply rustic and make it beautiful on its own.
This is a great little project that doesn’t take very long, but it seems to have taken hours. Of course I’m happy about that. I love adding things to my home that look expensive and difficult to make, but are super simple and even economical!
Can this be used for real flowers?
If you only use it for a short period of time and do not plan to add water, this can help hold some stems. Otherwise, this is not a vase in which you put water and keep flowers for a long time.
I can see how I use it for artificial flowers, how I show it, or for a few long stem roses, only for a short time on the dining table. Under no circumstances should you add water to this vase. Since it is made of paper, it is obviously not suitable for liquids.
How can I decorate my vase?
I used a simple gold band around the neck of the vase. The simplicity of this look goes great with me and my home, but you can easily add your own style. There are countless great ways to really transform this into a unique new look.
- Add a bow with the ribbon around the neck of the vase.
- Coat the edges of the paper with glue and sprinkle some glitter over it.
- Spray a light coat of paint in colors that match your decor.
- Add holiday colors to the ribbon as the seasons and holidays change.
- Use a pearl necklace instead of a ribbon around the neck of the vase.
- Tie a bow with burlap or jeans around the vase to give the project a country chic look.
- Make them in different sizes using different types of books to display them on your coat.
Can this be done with normal craft paper?
To do this with normal craft paper, you’d need to add some glue along the edges to hold them together. I recommend stacking the papers of your choice evenly and then spreading a generous layer of hot glue on one side. Let the glue dry. Once you’ve cut out the vase shape, you can follow the instructions to connect it to the shape.
Supplies are needed
How to make a paper vase from old book pages
Draw a vase shape with a small piece of cardboard the size of the book used. You want this to be just the outline of one side of the vase.
Cut the shape out of the box with a craft knife or scissors.
Place the cardboard stencil on your book, place it on the edge of the book binding and draw the shape on the top of the paper.
Use your craft knife to cut off the excess outer paper.
Continue this process until you have only reached the last pages of the paper vase. At this point, you can cut the last pages with scissors.
Once the entire book has been cut out, you have connected a stack of pages on the flat side with book binding glue.
Now set up the stack and pull the two sides together to make a connection and form a circle.
Seal the two sides with hot glue and hold the vase shape.
Now add a strip of ribbon around the neck of the vase.
Add additional embellishments or bows and display them as desired.
