To consume more old book pages, I decided to try this method of making flowers. This old book page wreath in a rustic style with fringes is super easy to manufacture and versatile. I love that it uses a rolled paper flower style that I like to do and that is great for decorating all year round. Whether you use it on vacation or as a wreath between seasons, you will love this craft.
Lined old book page wreath
I’ve made tons of floral wreaths, folded wreaths, and a variety of styles for holidays and themes. I’ve never used this fringed paper flower style, however, and I’m really in love with the result. It matched the shape of the wreath very well and came together very easily.
It takes time to make so many flowers with fringes, but it’s worth the effort. The flowers are very easy to make, they just take a little more time. You can add a customization to the wreath, use it for various decoration needs, add it to your door, wall or coat. The possibilities are varied, which makes it a perfect craft project for everyone and every home decor.
How can I decorate this wreath?
I added a simple bow and berries on top of my wreath. This would really suit any vacation, but you can decorate as you prefer. Doing a wreath yourself is a must and this is super easy to customize.
- Wrap the colored ribbon diagonally around the wreath.
- Use different wide ribbons and flowers to create the arch above.
- Add several pieces of string or ribbon to the bottom of the wreath to look more like fringes.
- Glue artificial flowers in random places around the wreath shape.
- Spray glue on the wreath and dust it with glitter.
- Color or paint the pages and let them dry before rolling them into flowers.
- Use spray paint to add shades of different colors around the wreath and achieve a color-coordinated look.
Can I use different wreath shapes?
I chose a vine wreath for additional rural and rustic style. That doesn’t mean you have to use the same wreath shape. However, the goal is to make this look pretty. If you choose another option like styrofoam or wire, I recommend wrapping the wreath shape with a colorful fabric or ribbon.
You can even use a simple piece of cardboard cut into a circular ring shape. Simply glue the fringe flowers onto the shape like with this grapevine wreath to achieve the desired look. Get creative and make this your own unique style.
Can I use paper other than book pages?
Of course you can use any paper you want for this project! Simply cut the paper into rectangles about the size of a 5 “x 7” book. You can use craft paper, construction paper, scrapbook paper, or even coloring book pages. Choose what you prefer and add to the wreath to give it your own favorite color and style.
Supplies are needed
How to make an old book page wreath with fringes
Tear pages out of an old book. For this wreath you need 40-50 pages with an average wine wreath shape.
Fold the book page vertically in half and cut thin strips through the paper, leaving the middle fold intact.
Continue until the entire page is cut into a margin, then unfold it so that the center is firm but the outer edges are hemmed.
Add some glue along the middle of the page, then fold it back in half and press to seal this middle area together.
Now add an adhesive strip along the fixed edge.
Start rolling the paper so that the solid edge is sealed and the edge is loose.
Continue rolling the glue as needed to secure it.
After sealing, add extra glue to seal them and set them aside.
Repeat this process for the rest of your book pages.
When all the edge flowers are done, glue them to your grapevine wreath by placing an adhesive strip on the floor and placing them on the wreath so that they are straight with fringes on top.
Continue gluing them just so far apart on the wreath that they can bloat a little but still touch the sides.
Do this until the entire wreath has a single row of flowers. Go back at this point and glue a second row of paper flowers around the wreath between the existing ones.
Once you’re satisfied with the number of paper flowers on the wreath, cut a strip of ribbon and form a loop.
Glue the bow to the top of the wreath with some fake berry accents.
Hang on your door, coat or wall.
